Preschool and Technique Intensives

We have summer camps for ages 3-18. They are fun filled opportunities for your dancer to learn more than they ever could at another camp. CMSD's camps have been described as more educational than a New York dance intensive and more fun than a recreational sleep away camp, and it is available right in your area! We have four tiers of camps that allow your dancer to fill their summer in the way that best suits their ability. The summer will conclude with a summer showcase, where all campers will have the opportunity to show off their newly learned skills. Students will be split up on the first day of camp based on AGE, DANCE TECHNIQUE AND LENGTH OF DAY. 3-7 year old students have the option to sign up for morning only or the whole day. It is suggested that 3 year olds only do a half day.

Camps run from 9-5 daily with the option of early drop off (8:00AM)and late pick up (6:00PM)

Our youngest and least experienced campers can plan to enjoy a fun filled morning with a myriad of creativity including, but not limited to ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, gymnastics, story time, singing and art.

Our older (at least 8 by October 2013) beginner campers will enjoy a fun filled day of dance forms including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, gymnastics, and performance. They will spend their non dancing time sewing, drawing and being creative. These 8-18 year old dancers will be split up the first day of camp and the most experienced will learn the ins and outs of putting together a performance, including sewing, choreographing and music choice. They will learn how to teach and will have the opportunity to assist classes. They will take a number of technique classes each week that will allow them to advance quickly in dance. This camp is designed to be repeated summer after summer and is most rewarding to return students. No one can participate in this camp too many times. The technique classes are high level, the theory classes are detailed and there is new information every year. Dance, sewing and teaching is something you can only improve at. Studio assistants and soloist performers are chosen from campers who have successfully participated in this camp. Student teachers are not considered until they have successfully participated in at least 3 summers of this camp, as important information is studied and explored during their time in the camp.

Our oldest (at least 14 by August 1), most experienced and most mature campers are invited to apply for our most intense camp. These campers must apply for a spot, as there are limited spaces and we want to be sure that we give them to the most eager and prepared students. Please apply by submitting an essay by January 15 with the weeks that you would like to participate. In the essay, please be sure to answer the following questions.

Why do you want to do this camp? Why do you think you have earned a position in this camp? What can you bring to the camp that would benefit the others involved? What skills to you hope to accomplish during this camp?

These campers must do three week at a time, as it will keep fluidity to the camp and will allow them much more improvement. They willl come away from this camp having successfully assisted, taught and guided other students. It is expected that these students will come in yearning for growth as young adults. These campers will be guided to become well rounded dancers, teachers and people and will be held to high standards at all times. It is encouraged that campers who apply for this and do not receive a spot, will still join us for camp in order to gain more experience that will help them for future summers.
