How do you determine class placement? Initially class placement for new students is determined by age. Children of similar ages tend to learn at similar rates and enjoy similar activities. Being in a class that you are too young for or that you do not have the experience for will frustrate you and take away from the other students in the class. Placement for returning students is based on their class performance the previous semester. Once you are passed the introductory stages of dance, there are tests that determine which class is best suited for you. There are specific techniques required for passing each level. Students progress through these levels at different rates. It may take one semester to several years to graduate from a level. These are not like grades K-12 in school. One year of dance experience does not always equal 1 level of progression. CMSD does offer some classes that are mixed levels, these are a great way to take class with friends that may be at different stages. |
